Caution, Conspiracy theory follows…
I wondered when Senator Gregg was nominated for the Commerce Secretary, why? He had actually voted to kill the department in the recent past. It made no sense, but I was willing to watch. Then the announcement on the census being moved and it became clear what was going on. What follows are purely my paranoid way of thinking (‘Just because you are paranoid does not mean they are not out to get you’)
The Republican party is in shambles. The only hope they have of increasing their clout is to either change their platform (Not happening with the extreme ideology of the party) or controlling the redistricting that will happen after the 2010 census. There in lies the plan. Gregg was recommended to the administration to run the department responsible for the census. After his refusal to support the president on the stimulus, a hard look was redone on the appointment to see where he could hurt the administration and then the census was found. To mitigate the threat, it was pulled. Now there was no reason for him to stay, since that was the only reason for his wanting the posting. Naturally they could not say that was the reason, or the plot would have been exposed, and the blow back would have further damage the Republicans.
What should the administration do? It needs to nominate a person that is above reproach. To that end, I suggest Colin Powel for the posting. A leader, a Republican, a man that the country values highly (nearly equal to President Obama himself). Then return the census to the Commerce Department and reinstall the countries faith in the system and the administration.
Just My Opinion
